PAW PAW, Mich. — A robbery suspect is due in court Monday in Van Buren County.

Deputies say the intoxicated teen stumbled onto the property of a corrections officer who was off duty. It happened in the 38,000 block of 64th Avenue in Paw Paw early Saturday morning.

That officer held the suspect at gunpoint until deputies arrived. We talked to the corrections officer’s girlfriend who says she was getting ready for bed when her dog started barking. She looked out the window and saw a man walking down the sidewalk.

That’s when Nicole Corstange says her boyfriend grabbed a shot gun and went out to the pole barn. He found the man hiding under some horse saddles and recognized him as a former jail inmate. “And he kept trying to ask ‘can I just go home, can I leave?’ Obviously we weren’t going to let him go,” said Nicole Corstange.
