STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — An inmate at State Correctional Institution at Rockview was sentenced to an extra five to 10 years in prison for an assault that happened in 2013 while he was already serving a life sentence on an unrelated rape case.

Jeffrey Turner, 49, was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to two counts of felony second-degree aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, and one count of criminal mischief.

A report from the Centre County District Attorney’s Office said Turner will serve the sentence concurrent to his rape sentence.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred at Rockview on July 12, 2013, when he punched a female corrections officer in the face four times, and hit a male corrections officer in the head once, a report said.

The female corrections officer was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment.

The assault happened after the corrections officers asked Turner to leave the recreational yard, because he was not allowed there, the report said.
