GALESBURG, Ill. — A man accused of killing eight people during a two-state rampage has been indicted on charges he attacked correctional officers at an Illinois jail last month.

Knox County State’s Attorney John Pepmeyer announced Tuesday that a grand jury indicted 29-year-old Nicholas Sheley on charges of aggravated battery, aggravated assault and criminal damage to property.

The charges stem from an incident on April 17. Sheley is accused of taking the legs off a chair and throwing them at the officers and punching one.

The officers received minor injuries that didn’t require medical attention.

Sheley remains in custody on $10 million bond on the murder charges.

He is accused of bludgeoning to death six people in Illinois and two people in Missouri.
