JIM HOGG COUNTY, Texas — A female jailer accused of having an unapproved relationship with a convicted rapist who escaped from the Jim Hogg County Jail was fired over the weekend, investigators said.
Abel Morin Jr., 26, escaped Feb. 5 from the Jim Hogg County Jail after being taken to the Duval County Jail earlier in the day for a hearing, said Duval County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Bruno Valdez. Bruno said his department has asked the Texas Rangers to investigate a possible relationship between Morin and 36-year-old corrections officer Jessica Trevino.
Trevino was fired Saturday for misconduct, Valdez said. He refused to elaborate, citing an ongoing investigation.
“We’ll release more information if criminal charges are brought,” he said.
Morin was serving five life sentences for the rape of a neighbor and her daughter, and was transferred in January from Duval County to Jim Hogg County. Law enforcement officers found the 26-year-old Feb. 12 hiding in a vacant home in San Diego less than eight blocks from the home of his victims.
Trevino could not be reached Thursday afternoon.
