This week, host Anthony Gangi speaks with Corrections1 columnist Matt Stiehm about his article 4 types of policies rookies should pay close attention to. They talk about how Stiehm approached the article and carved it down to just four policies among the many officers are often inundated with.

“As a rookie officer, I thought that all policies are important, but these are the most important policies that an officer should study within their first week,” Stiehm said.

Gangi and Stiehm delve more deeply into each of the four policies – count, use of force, medical and emergency – and explain the intricacies and important notes of each, along with how each are connected and can create a strong foundation of knowledge for officers when it comes to approaching any situation.

Gangi also interviews Stiehm on his reasoning for switching from a policing career to becoming a correctional officer; he also gives a shout out to the Correctional Officer Brotherhood, a Facebook group focused on correctional officer support.
