NEWARK — A union representative for a black corrections officer allegedly dropped the ‘n-word’ multiple times while discussing a grievance.
The Courthouse News Service reports that Grover Jackson met with Carlton Easton, the union’s vice president, to discuss the status of a grievance he had filed against Newark’s Northern State Prison where he was working as a senior corrections officer.
Jackson said Easton “responded in an unnecessarily aggressive and demeaning manner to plaintiff’s comments about his grievance.”
The complaint continues that Easton used the ‘n-word’ 15 times.
Jackson is now suing the union, Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local No. 105. The union did not respond to a request for comment.
Jackson is seeking damages for racial discrimination.
