JACKSON, Miss. — A prison inmate is facing murder charges after allegedly beating another inmate to death. The attacker was caught on surveillance video allegedly celebrating after the killing.
Clarion-Ledger reporter Jerry Mitchell has been doing a multiple-part series on conditions at Mississippi’s prisons. Mitchell agreed to share some of the video he has gotten from confidential sources, including video of Tyler “Psycho” Smith, who is charged in connection with the death of fellow inmate Clifton Majors.
Mitchell called the story in his newspaper series, “Anatomy of a Murder.” On Friday, Mitchell showed 16 WAPT’s Bert Case video from the 2013 slaying.
“This is after he had killed (Majors). You see him celebrate and you see the officer turns his back on him. (He) never says sit down; never arrests him,” Mitchell said.
“So, he is celebrating having killed someone here?” Case asked.
“Yes he is,” Mitchell said.
