CHARLOTTE, N.C. — With one man behind bars, authorities are still searching for a second suspect in the June 5 death of corrections officer Bias Easley.

But that hasn’t stopped Easley’s family from holding a vigil for the fallen officer, according to My Fox 8.

“He was just an easy guy, had a love for people,” said Doris Easley, Bias’s mother. “He learned that from his father and me.”

“We want justice for our son,” said Joseph Easley. “Other than that, we want to show love.”

Bias Easley was gunned down outside his home on June 5. Though he had been working as a corrections officer at the Lanesboro prison, police say there is no evidence to tie the shooting to his job.

They believe it has more to do with a confrontation at a nearby convenience store.

“It’s just sad,” Doris said. “All of this crime and these guns, its kids killing kids for no reason.”

The Easleys are asking for an end to the violence, hoping that another family will never have to go through what they have.

They are trying to stay strong for Bias’ children, a 1-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy.

“You see iti n the news every day, and your heart goes out to the family but when it touches you, I don’t want anybody to feel that pain,” Doris said.
