MASON COUNTY, Wash. – A deputy with the Mason County Jail was killed during her commute to work on Tuesday.

KIRO TV reports that Rachael B. Sthulmiller was riding her motorcycle on Highway 101 when she collided with a dump trunk turning into a quarry.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sthulmiller, 25, was a new recruit with the jail and was sworn in on May 1. She served in the military before being hired by the sheriff’s office.

The crash is being investigated by Washington State Patrol.
