STEVENS POINT, Wis. — The Portage County Sheriff’s Office is finding social media to be a boon when it comes to reaching out to the community for information.

Stevenspoint Journal reports that the page has 4,305 likes as of Friday, and Deputy Dan Kontos says the amount of tips they receive through the page and through the Portage County Crimestoppers page has been unprecedented.

Sheriff’s Office officials post pictures of those with outstanding warrants roughly once per week on the Facebook page.

One woman who was booked into the Portage County Jail was overheard saying, “They’re putting us on Facebook now.”
