SIOUX CITY — With a few finishing touches left to be added, the Woodbury County Jail’s $1.2 million renovation is complete.

The facility, built in 1987, now has an updated booking area, security system and master control room.

Corrections Officer Brent DeVries used to unlock doors with buttons and levers on a large, antiquated panel that took up an entire counter of the room. Now, he controls building security by touching a computer flat screen.

Jail officials are working with contractors to finish the last of the projects, and work out any glitches in the new system.

Replacing the aging control system was a key part of the renovation to the jail, 407 Seventh St., said Woodbury County Sheriff Dave Drew.

“It had run its course. It was 25 years old,” Drew said Wednesday. “I think this system is going to help monitor things a lot better.”
