MITCHELLVILLE, Iowa — The cost of expanding the Iowa Correctional Institute for Women has gone from the originally projected $68 million to $122 million.
Lawmakers were surprised by the new price, saying they were informed that the price wouldn’t grow above $100 million, according to KCCI.
Deputy Corrections Director Brad Hier said funding for the project was approved by the Iowa legislature so the cost, which includes $94.5 million for construction, should not be a surprise.
