Chile prison is “revolving door” for terror suspect

SANTIAGO, Chile — A high-security prison in Chile where terrorism suspects are held is turning into a revolving door for a Pakistani man who was detained at the U.S. Embassy, allegedly with traces of explosives on his possessions.

Mohamed Saif Ur Rehman Khan was detained on May 10 and held at the prison while Chilean authorities sought evidence to support a charge of carrying a bomb.

Khan proclaimed his innocence, and a judge ordered him freed for lack of evidence.

An appellate court overturned the ruling, calling him a danger to society.

But a second judge on Tuesday set Khan free again, saying that he has enough social connections in Chile to prevent him from fleeing.

Prosecutors are preparing another appeal as they continue to build a case.
