ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — Michael Tidwell has been selected to replace Gordon Pike as director of the Escambia County Jail effective Jan. 28.
The Pensacola News Journal reports that Tidwell will oversee the departments of Community Corrections, Probation, Jail, Pretrial, Code Enforcement, Animal Control and the Road Prison.
Tidwell previously served as chief corrections deputy for Orleans Parish, La. He has more than 30 years of experience in the corrections field.
He retired from the Orange County corrections department in 2013 amid scandal over lax monitoring of its home-confinement program. Tidwell had been scheduled to retire well before the allegations broke, and he transitioned directly to his position in Orleans Parish where he spent just over a year.
