CORINTH, Miss. — Alcorn County Sheriff Charles Rinehart is in no hurry to hire a new warden at the regional jail.
Rinehart told the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors on Monday that Roger Settlemires, who was made acting warden following the resignation of Irb Benjamin, will continue handling day-to-day operations for now.
The Daily Corinthian reports that Rinehart told supervisors that he has received applications for the job but is satisified with Settlemires’ work.
Rinehart says he will look at the issue later.
Last June, Settlemires was promoted to security chief.
The resignation of Benjamin was effective Nov. 30 in the aftermath of the past year’s escapes from the facility.
The county is reimbursed by MDOC to house state inmates at the facility, which opened in 2011.
