ABURUN, N.Y. — A person previously incarcerated at Auburn Correctional Facility was convicted Thursday of throwing urine at a registered nurse and a correction officer there in 2024.
In a news release, the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office said that Levar Murray, 48, was found guilty by a Cayuga County Court jury of two counts of aggravated harassment of an employee by an incarcerated individual, often referred to as “throwing.”
The district attorney’s office said Murray threw the urine while the nurse was delivering medication to his cell on Jan. 10, 2024, when he was confined to the Auburn prison’s Special Housing Unit.
Murray is now housed in Attica Correctional Facility, where he is serving a nine-year prison sentence for Kings County convictions of second-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm.
The jury of nine men and three women delivered the verdict at 1 p.m., the district attorney’s office said. Murray is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 25, and faces a total maximum sentence of 2.5 to five years consecutive to his current one, as well as a $5,000 fine.
The case was prosecuted by Chief Assistant District Attorney Christopher T. Valdina, and presided over by Judge Steve Buschman.
