NEW YORK — A former city corrections officer whose husband – a fellow Rikers Island officer – allegedly shot her in the face announced a lawsuit Friday claiming she was fired after a lengthy medical absence and seeking to be reinstated.
Janine Martin, a probationary officer, was allegedly shot by her hubby, Capt. Brian Martin, 37, during a fight in December 2013 at their Roosevelt home on Long Island. He was charged with attempted murder.
Martin, 40, who was accompanied by her father, Sidney Howard, at a press conference, is seeking to be reinstated, back pay, benefit and seniority, according to the lawsuit filed against the city and Corrections Department.
