2 NC corrections officers stabbed during attack by inmate

An inmate stabbed the COs with a homemade weapon as they were attempting to remove him from his cell

RALEIGH, N.C. — Two Central Prison corrections officers stabbed Tuesday evening were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

An inmate stabbed the two corrections officers with a homemade weapon as they were attempting to remove him from his cell, the state Department of Public Safety said in a news release.

One of the officers was stabbed in the leg, and received medical care outside the prison for two stab wounds, the news release said. The other officer was treated at the prison.

Local law enforcement was notified and is investigating, the news release said, and an internal investigation was launched.
