GADSEN, Ala. — A corrections officer was killed Sunday when the vehicle he was driving veered off the roadway, overturned, and hit a tree.
Fort Payne Police Chief Randy Bynum told the Gadsen Times that 23-year-old Cody LeDale Wells had been working for about five months as a corrections officer at the Fort Payne jail.
A press release from officials reported that Wells was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash north of Fort Payne.
Police are investigating the accident.
