MONTGOMERY COUNTY, N.Y. — An inmate at the Montgomery County Jail attempted an escape while out of the facility this past week and assaulted a corrections officer in the process, officials said.

Kristii Roy, 31, of Amsterdam, was charged with second-degree attempted escape and second-degree assault, felonies, in connection with the Wednesday incident, officials said.

Roy was in the custody of the corrections officer and out of the facility when the incident happened. The officer was able to regain custody of Roy, but suffered injuries in the struggle, officials said. The officer’s injuries were not serious, while Roy was not injured, officials said.

A release did not describe the attempt further or indicate the original charges Roy was in custody on.

The officer “did an outstanding job, thankfully she was not injured seriously,” sheriff’s officials wrote on Facebook.

Roy was returned to the jail without further incident and charged.

Roy was arraigned on the new charges and ordered held on $10,000 bail.
