COLUMBUS, Ohio — Employees of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections will protest unsafe prison conditions from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday.

The Mansfield News Journal reports that security issues involving a food service contractor, a major escape in Lima and continued low staffing levels concern the union that represents about 8,000 employees.

Members of the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association will protest persistent understaffing, security breaches in food service, a broken tier system of classifying inmates as well as the elimination of segregation units at a time when the prison inmate population is busting at the seams.

A press conference will take place at 10 a.m.
