TRENTON – The two men charged in a November shooting at a Trenton banquet hall that left Mercer County Corrections Officer Carl Batie dead were seen in surveillance video “working together” for about a half hour before the shooting, a prosecutor said today.
Assistant Prosecutor James Scott said investigators working on the case have been studying surveillance video captured around the area of the Baldassari Regency in Chambersburg where then Nov. 11 shooting occurred.
In that video, Hykeem Tucker and Maurice Skillman, both 26-year-old city residents, are seen with a weapon, maybe two, Scott said. “Tucker is standing next to Skillman when the shots are fired,” Scott said during a hearing to review Tucker’s bail this morning.
Batie was the only one injured in the shooting and suffered a gunshot wound to the head, Scott said.
“He was killed almost instantaneously,” Scott said. Both Tucker and Skillman were charged with murder and weapons offenses in connection with the incident and both are being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
