COLTON, Calif. — Authorities say a correctional officer was attacked and shot while pumping gas in Colton on his way to work Thursday night by a shooting suspect who was recently paroled from the same Chino prison.
Colton police released no details Friday and have not said if the shooting was random or a targeted attack.
Authorities have not yet identified the correctional officer, but the warden for Chino Institution for Women, Tamara Kabban-Miller, issued a statement identifying him as Tom Dennie, 52, a 26-year veteran at the California Institution for Men in Chino.
Dennie, a Fontana resident, remained in critical condition Friday at an intensive-care unit.
