Va. inmate punches correctional officer during transfer

He is accused of punching an officer in the face multiple times causing several lacerations

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — A Fredericksburg man who is an inmate at the Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center is accused of injuring a correctional officer.

The inmate, Regimald Leon Essic, 32, was being transferred from his cell at 3:35 a.m. Tuesday when the incident took place, according to police.

He is accused of punching an officer in the face multiple times causing several lacerations, Prince William Police said.

He was detained without further incident and was arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding and obstruction of justice. Essic is being held without bond.
