This week, host Anthony Gangi talks with military veteran and correctional professional Gary York about the importance of roll calls inside correctional facility and see to answer the question, “whatever happened to roll call?”

“It’s very vital, it’s a vital tool, not just for the supervisors, but for the safety of all officers,” York said. “Officers must discuss the previous shift’s incident before the outgoing shift departs. If we don’t get all the information of what’s occurring in the prison or jail before we take over, there’s many, many ways that officers can be affected.”

Roll calls are also avenues for training and questions from officers to administrators, whether it’s about a recent even or policies and procedures.
