How often have you been required to work mandatory OT in the past year?

Corrections employees who work overtime on a frequent basis have been shown to suffer from partial chronic sleep deprivation. How has mandatory overtime impacted your sleep and overall health? Email your thoughts to editor@corrections1.com.

  • We went to mandatory overtime (4 hours per day, 5 days per week) back in February 2021. After not too long, a month maybe, they backed off to 4 hours per day, 4 days per week. We’ve been on 16 hours per week mandatory since - no end in sight. Seems like we all say the $$ is nice, but at some point, the stress & added hours aren’t worth it. I know I want my life back. If they canceled the mandatory overtime, I and many others would probably still do extra hours, but at our own will.
  • CT. Dept of Corrections uses mandatory overtime on a daily basis all 3 shifts 7 days a week.
  • Definitely not a choice, but I’m still trying to figure out how you can work 2 shifts and not receive a break/lunch only to be told that you’re not allowed to leave until they get enough overtime positions filled? It’s truly a crazy situation.
