PEORIA — The Peoria Police Department is getting more gang members off the streets. That’s good news for the public.
However, once these men go to the county jail, officers face a different battle.
Sheriff Mike McCoy said gang members enter jail with loyalties and rivalries that they had on the streets, and because of that, his officers have to be careful.
Ten more men with gang affiliations are being held in the county jail cells. They’re part of the Peoria police department’s recent round of indictments.
Sheriff McCoy said they join a long list. He said, “A lot of the people that come in are gang members.”
