WALLA WALLA, Wash. — A Walla Walla program is helping released prison inmates find housing, services and jobs they need to rejoin society.

The non-profit Star Project also offers therapy and mentoring to help prevent ex-cons from reoffending.

The Union Bulletin tells the story of Scott Andrews who spent more than 18 years in prison for assaulting his wife in a custody dispute.

Since he was released in August of 2011 he took life schools classes and enrolled in an automotive technology program at Walla Walla Community College. He is slated to graduate in June.

Andrews says he couldn’t have accomplished this much without the help of the Successful Transition And Re-entry agency known as STAR.
