PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco has implemented a new email service for family members and friends of inmates incarcerated in the Land O’ Lakes Detention Center.
It’s called SmartJailMail, and the service is now accepting applications for citizens who wish to set up accounts. The service is being set up at no cost to the Sheriff’s Office, and thus Pasco taxpayers, but will be paid for by the family members and friends of inmates who utilize the program.
A total of 77 kiosks are being set up in the detention center’s housing units and they allow the inmates to read and send email to those persons who have approved accounts. Only email and photos sent through the SmartJailMail accounts will be permitted. While inmates can receive email and photos, they will only be able to send email, not photos.
The emails and photos will be monitored by Pasco detention deputies, just like the outgoing phone calls made by inmates are currently monitored. Failure to follow email and photo guidelines will result in the cancellation of the account.
