MACON, Ga. — A corrections officer at Central State Prison was able to stop an inmate who grabbed another officer’s gun, WMAZ reports.

An inmate, identified as Carey McLeod, was being transported to the Atrium Health Navicent on Jan. 3 when he attacked a corrections officer and grabbed the officer’s holster.

Before McLeod was able to get the gun out of the holster, another corrections officer was able to pull out her gun and ordered the inmate to drop it and lay it on the ground, the Georgia Department of Corrections said.

The officer who was attacked was treated for minor injuries and released.

“We are proud of our officers and their quick actions that prevented the situation from escalating and we are also grateful to the Atrium Navicent staff for their assistance during the incident,” a statement from GDOC provided to WMAZ said.
