SALINAS, Calif. — A Salinas man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly punched a sheriff's deputy and was subdued with a Taser, the Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies spotted the man, a parolee, smoking drugs while sitting in a car on Newlyn Street in North Salinas about 10 a.m.
The man tried to run off after he got out of the car, and deputies restrained him. During a struggle, he punched one deputy and tried to grab the officers' Tasers, deputies said.
A search of the man's vehicle turned up a small amount of methamphetamine and about a pound a marijuana, deputies said.
Gabriel Wayne Martinez, 35, was booked into the Monterey County Jail on drug, battery and resisting arrest charges.
