GRATIOT COUNTY, Mich. — A Mid-Michigan prison inmate serving a life sentence for second-degree murder has died after allegedly stabbing two officers.
Russ Marlan, a Michigan Department of Corrections spokesman, said 51-year-old Leonard Riffe died of an apparent heart attack Thursday afternoon at the St. Louis Correctional Facility, about 100 miles northwest of Detroit.
Marlan said Riffe used a sharp object to stab one officer in the chest and the other in the shoulder. He said Riffe was taken to a holding cell, where he collapsed and died.
