TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Two corrections officers at the Hamilton Correctional Institute were fired after being accused of slapping an inmate, WFTS reports.
The incident was captured on video that was posted to social media on Feb. 9. The Florida Department of Corrections said the officers have been fired and are now under criminal investigation.
In the video, two officers are with the inmate when one of the officers slaps the inmate twice. The person who posted the video told WFTS that an inmate from Hamilton Correctional Institution sent him the video.
Hamilton Correctional Institution is one of several prisons in Florida that has members of the National Guard deployed to help with staffing shortages.
