COOK COUNTY, Ill. — Three Cook County Jail inmates were stabbed and seriously wounded Wednesday during a possible gang-related fight in a maximum-security wing of the jail, officials said.
Male inmates in the day room of Division 1 fought about 5:40 p.m., said Penny Mateck, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, which oversees the jail.
Four homemade knives were recovered in the room, she said.
The inmates were taken in serious condition to Mt. Sinai and Stroger Hospitals, said Chicago Fire Department Chief Joe Roccasalva.
