Prisioners ride light rail to save county money

MESA, Ariz. — “Con Rail” lasted all of two days.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Thursday his agency would no longer use Metro light rail to transport inmates, after Phoenix agreed to provide, at no charge, four parking passes for Sky Harbor International Airport.
Metro officials expressed concern riders might be uncomfortable with Arpaio’s plans, announced Tuesday, to save money by regularly using the new light-rail system during extraditions. Full Story
