Texas sheriff fires jailer he says cavorted with inmate
OCALA, Fla. — A Marion County sheriff’s employee was fired Tuesday for inappropriately touching and kissing a female inmate last month while she worked in the jail’s video-visitation center, according to reports. Steve Widner, a radio technician, walked up to the inmate on Nov. 19 while she was sitting on a crate in a small copy room sorting wires, according to sheriff’s reports. Widner rubbed the inmate’s cheek and told her, “I can get you things” and “I’ll take care of you,” according to reports. Widner also admitted to providing food -- including toaster pastries and soft drinks -- to other inmates, according to reports.
