DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The funeral for slain corrections officer Donna Fitzgerald is today in Daytona Beach.
The service is being held at the Basilica of St. Paul Catholic Church at 1 p.m. It is open to the public.
Fitzgerald, a 13-year-veteran at the Tomoka State Prison in Daytona Beach, was killed on June 25 by Enoch Hall, a prison inmate, according to Florida Department of Corrections officials.
Authorities said Hall, 39, folded a piece of sheet metal and hid in a prison building. Hall pounced on 50-year-old Fitzgerald, who was unarmed, when she came looking for him, authorities said.
The Florida Department of Corrections is conducting an administrative review of the stabbing while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates the murder.
At the time of the attack, Hall was serving life in prison at Tomoka Correctional Institution on 1993 sexual-battery and kidnapping convictions in Escambia County.
