CALIFORNIA — The California Highway Patrol says a man who held his wife and three children hostage on a freeway has surrendered.
Interstate 80, the main northern artery linking California and Nevada, reopened late Wednesday night after an eight-hour standoff.
The CHP says 32-year-old Andrew Jason Rosas of Sacramento held his wife and three children for a few hours before releasing them safe.
Authorities say Rosas fled as deputies tried to arrest him on a warrant. He was scheduled for sentencing Thursday on an unknown criminal conviction and faced more than 15 years in prison.
He led deputies on a chase up I-80 before a spike strip stopped his car near the Sierra summit.
