HAGERSTOWN, Md. — A state prison near Hagerstown is on lockdown after inmates attacked several correctional officers.
As a result of the brawl, Roxbury Correctional Institution spokeswoman Denise Gelsinger says seven inmates have been transferred from the medium-security prison to the maximum-security North Branch Correctional Institution near Cumberland.
She says she doesn’t know the extent of any injuries suffered by those involved in the incident Thursday.
Gelsinger says the incident began when an inmate tried to escape as officers escorted prisoners back to their cells after lunch.
She says the lockdown will continue until March 17.
