NJ corrections officer found not guilty of assaulting inmate

Indicted in July 2009 for alleged assaulting 50-year-old inmate Michael Ewing

BRIDGETON — Kevin Still,the Cumberland County corrections officer on trial for allegedly assaulting an inmate was found not guilty on all 15 counts Wednesday by a Superior Court jury.

Still was indicted in July 2009 for alleged assaulting 50-year-old inmate Michael Ewing. Still was indicted on second-degree aggravated assault, three counts of second-degree official misconduct, fourth-degree falsifying records, fourth-degree obstructing administration of law or other governmental function, and second-degree conspiracy to commit official misconduct.

Ewing, a Pennsylvania resident, was arrested in Vineland in June 2008, for “improper behavior” and resisting arrest for allegedly shoving a Vineland police officer, spitting in the face of another officer, and kicking a police dog.

He was indicted and charged with simple assault against a law enforcement officer, harming a K-9 officer, throwing bodily fluid and resisting arrest.
