ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An internal investigation at the Orange County Jail shows there was no “fight club,” but corrections officers did violate jail policies. Corrections officers Luis Ricardo Escobales, Samuel Cruz and Erick Mejia were sanctioned for violating the policies regarding the code of ethics, use of force and report writing, according to the 72-page document released by the jail Thursday.
Each corrections officer will be suspended one day without pay and must enroll in ethics training, the report shows. The corrections officers returned to regular duty in the jail’s Horizon facility Feb. 3 after the jail concluded its internal probe, jail spokesman Allen Moore said. They had been temporarily reassigned to administrative duty.
Corrections officer Mark Anthony Caruso, who also was named in the probe, resigned after he was reassigned to the Work Release Center off Kaley Street because he could not collect overtime pay, Moore said.
