TRENTON, N.J. — A riot last weekend at the Jamesburg juvenile jail, and the response to it from prison administrators, has rankled the rank and file and raised questions regarding rules in the state’s juvenile penitentiaries.
A lax policy regarding the disciplining of inmates in the facilities run by the state Juvenile Justice Commission has resulted in an atmosphere of violence for inmates and dangerous conditions for officers working with them, according to a number of corrections-minded sources.
“Somebody’s going to die,” said one JJC source, who asked to remain anonymous. “Inmate, officer, staff, somebody will die, and it’s a shame” ...Full Story
