SACRAMENTO — Three top aides abruptly left California’s embattled court-appointed prison receiver Thursday, just five days before the Schwarzenegger administration asks a federal judge to dismantle the office which controls medical care in the state’s 33 adult prisons.
Prison receiver J. Clark Kelso said he dismissed Chief of Staff John Hagar, his assistant Steve Weston and Terry Hill, chief executive for Medical Services, because Kelso wants a more cooperative relationship with the governor’s office as the receivership tries to merge back into the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation over the next several years.
“John and I had a different vision for how we accomplish our goals,” Kelso said. “He’s not as collaborative as he needs to be at this point, given that we need to work collaboratively with the state.”
