SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — A Utah County jail inmate escaped from his Payson work-release program Friday, stole a Buick and made it to Taylorsville before he was caught by police.
The 35-year-old man never clocked in to work after being transported from jail that morning, instead stealing a car from the business’s parking lot. He was caught in Taylorsville as a passenger in a different vehicle. The stolen Buick was recovered nearby.
The inmate was scheduled to appear in court this week on a second-degree felony charge of receiving stolen property and a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license. The preliminary hearing for those charges has been pushed back to March. He has prior convictions that include Class A misdemeanor attempted absconding and third-degree felony theft and use of a controlled substance.
