POMONA — Police are searching for a 35-year-old woman who escaped Saturday afternoon from the California Department of Corrections with her 11-day-old son.
Daphne Miner is a CDC inmate who was taking parenting classes at the time of her escape in the 800 block of Arrow Highway at 4:45 p.m., according to a police news release.
She is described as African-American, 5 feet 4 inches tall, 228 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and a scar on her nose. She was last seen wearing a yellow long-sleeved blouse and blue jeans. She may be headed to Los Angeles or the Long Beach area.
Miner’s child, Sean, is 11-days-old, African-American with curly hair, weighing 10 pounds and is considered a critical missing person because his mother does not have parental rights.
Police confirmed that Miner escaped from the Prototypes Women’s Center where she was enrolled in a parenting program.
A center representative would not answer questions either about security measures at the center or Miner when contacted Sunday afternoon.
According to Prototypes Web site, the organization is a multi-service, nonprofit agency offering services to women who are affected by domestic abuse, HIV/AIDS and substance abuse among other issues.
A media representative for the CDC could not be immediately reached for comment.
Anyone who sees Miner is asked to call your local police department. Police advise not to try to contact Miner. She is wanted for kidnapping, child abduction and prisoner escape.
Pomona Police can be reached at (909)622-1241.
The police are working in conjunction with the CDC on this case.
