2 more Orleans Parish inmates plead guilty to contraband charges

NEW ORLEANS — Two more defendants in the notorious Orleans Parish Prison contraband case pleaded guilty in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court on Tuesday afternoon.

During a hearing in Criminal District Chief Judge Camille Buras’ courtroom, Rashan Hester, 31, and Ellis Jenkins, 29, pleaded guilty to charges of possession of contraband inside the prison.

Hester pleaded guilty to bringing cash into the jail between July 13 and 18, 2009. In exchange for the plea, Hester -- a second-time felon -- received a sentence of 30 months in prison with credit for time served.

Jenkins pleaded guilty to two counts in the indictment, stating that he brought in illicit drugs and cash between June 5 and June 19, 2009. Jenkins was sentenced to three years in prison in exchange for his plea.
