UTICA, N.Y. — The three people charged with planting a bomb in the driveway of a New York State CO have been indicted on second-degree attempted murder charges.
Cindy L. Shields, 58; Keith Seppi, 58; and Donna J. Seppi, 63, of Conneaut, Ohio, are charged with the attack on Marcy Corrections Officer Alan J. Dobransky.
Previously charged with one count of first-degree assault, the new charges were added by a grand jury earlier in July.
In addition to the attempted murder charge, the new charges include three counts of first-degree assault, first and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment, and fourth-degree conspiracy with intent of conduct constituting the crime of first-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
According to Syracuse.com, authorities say the attack was not related to Officer Dobransky’s job, but tied to an elder care scam Dobransky had uncovered against his mother in Ohio.
Dobransky had discovered that Shields, who was taking care of his mother, had taken money from her for more than four years, according to Onedia County Sheriff Robert Maciol. He declined to state the amount, but a relative of Dobransky told Syracuse.com it was about $8,000.
According the indictment, Dobransky picked up the package the morning of May 29 when it exploded — burning him on 50 percent of his body and causing serious injuries.
