GREENSBURG, Pa. — A teen charged with stabbing 20 fellow students and a security guard at his Pennsylvania high school is hoping a judge will set bail now that he’s been moved from a juvenile detention center to the county jail.

Alex Hribal turned 18 on Oct. 1, prompting his move to the Westmoreland County Jail.

That makes him eligible for Monday afternoon’s bail hearing.

Hribal is charged as an adult in the April 2014 rampage at Franklin Regional High School, but had been kept in juvenile detention because of his age. A hearing to determine if he’ll stand trial as an adult continues Nov. 24.

Hribal’s defense attorney says the teen’s mental health will deteriorate in jail. He acknowledges Hribal committed the attack using two 8-inch kitchen knives, but contends Hribal is mentally ill.
