LINCOLN, Neb. — Prosecutors have charged a convicted robber who had been serving time at the Lincoln Correctional Center with arson in connection with a November 2018 fire at the west Lincoln prison, according to court documents.
Ricardo D. Wood, 23, set the mattress in his cell on fire Nov. 16, a Nebraska Department of Correctional Services spokeswoman said.
A Lincoln Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said the agency wasn’t called to the fire.
Prosecutors charged Wood with first-degree arson late last month.
Sentenced to prison in 2016, Wood is serving 12½ years to 18 years in prison for attempted robbery, terroristic threats, domestic assault and assault by a confined person convictions in Lancaster County.
Wood has since been transferred to the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution, according to prison records.
If convicted, Wood faces up to 50 additional years in prison.
