ALBANY, N.Y. — New York sex offenders would have to register their second homes under legislation approved by the state Senate and Assembly.
Legislation heading to Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s desk would amend the current statute that requires registered offenders to list their primary residence. That’s defined as a fixed, permanent home where they intend to return after temporary absences.
The new law would require those with multiple residences to report those as well.
Sponsors say the current approach leaves police and communities unaware of an offender’s presence and unable to put protective measures in place.
